Myotherapy is a form of physical therapy that focuses on assessing, treating, and rehabilitating musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions. To help you feel prepared and get the most out of your session, here is a breakdown of what a typical Myotherapy appointment looks like and how you can prepare for it.
1. A Typical Session Structure
Most Myotherapy sessions follow the same basic structure. Assessment, treatment and education.
Assessment:
Begin by sharing your story to guide your myotherapist. Then you’ll be taken through movement based tests for your therapist to get a clear picture of what’s happening.
Treatment:
Your Myotherapist will determine the best treatment based on your presentation. This may include dry needling, cupping, massage techniques, electrotherapy and trigger point therapy. Your Myotherapist will never use a treatment tool you’re not comfortable with.
Education:
Conclude with a collaborative discussion to help you understand your condition, outline your treatment plan, and equip you with at-home exercises for continued well-being.
2. What to Wear
You can wear whatever you like but for the most convenience wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing that allows the therapist easy access to the areas needing treatment. Depending on the techniques used, the therapist may ask you to change into appropriate attire during the session.
3. Arrival and Check In
Upon arrival, our wonderful admin staff will greet you and offer you water. We also have a cafe attached to our clinic for you to enjoy a coffee or treat before or after your session. Arrive at the clinic a few minutes before your scheduled appointment to have enough time to find a park and ensure your new client form is filled out.
Parking can be a little tricky – there is typically street parking directly in front of the clinic. Between 4pm-6pm it is a clearway so be sure to park on a side street or on the opposite side of the road.
4. Booking Your Appointment
You can book an appointment online through my website codiemyotherapy.com or give the clinic a call. Initial appointments are 60 minutes and subsequent appointments are usually 45 minutes, however, this may vary depending on your needs. It’s also helpful to inform the therapist about any existing medical conditions, injuries, or areas of concern you would like to address during the session.
In conclusion, a myotherapy appointment is a personalised experience aimed at addressing your musculoskeletal issues and promoting overall well-being. By understanding what to expect and preparing for your first session, you can make the most of your Myotherapy treatment and take proactive steps towards better health and mobility.
